I have always been a “word” person.  At age ten, I was writing skits for the neighborhood kids to perform on our front porch for adoring parents. As an adult, I settled into freelance journalism.

Cally Tales, published in 2017, grew out of Christmas letters to friends and was based on the adventures of my calico cat and her thirteen furry friends. After nine years together, she decided to write a book, and I agreed to help.

Finally, after two more books, she graciously gave me permission to finish my own book, Unsung Heroes of the American Revolution. I found more than twenty to spotlight -- from tavern owners to sea captains to engineers. Then good friends reminded me African Americans had been overlooked. So had women and Jewish colonists, and Courageous Men & Women of the American Revolution was born and published in 2020.

Then came COVID and the paralyzing fear of the doomsdayers. They were forgetting the thirty years AFTER the American Revolution... Relive it now in America's Adolescence and take courage...

If you think we are in a horrendous mess today, I hope you will read what Americans faced AFTER winning Independence in 1782. It was a time of little or no government, crushing debt, and deep division. For thirty years freedom was on life support. England did everything possible to bring her former colonies back into her Empire.

Americans, however, were made of sterner stuff. They fashioned a governing document that has outlasted all others, set up a free market economy, paid their debts, ended years of extortion from the Barbary pirates, sidestepped the horrors of the French Revolution, doubled their land size, found naval commanders who could snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat, and finally won the Battle of New Orleans by uniting the "rabble" the British loved to despise.

May these stories from America's Adolescence break the bond of fear that paralyzes so many Americans today.
